Any help here would be much appreciated, this is quoted from a friend of mine who posted elsewhere and i thought with the intellect we get who passs through here might just have some useful advice..... | Quote: | Well we are in bad shape now. We have not even started our christmas shopping yet with just 6 days to go. we just didn't have the money and now we have a bigger problem. Someone hacked into my neteller account and now I really have no christmas money because they did an EFT deposit of just over $1500. from my bank account. Now I will have just the 1 paycheck on the 23rd to get any christmas for my children. I can only hope for a miricle. I cannot even hope to win a bonus and make a withdrawl from it since I now no longer have a neteller account.
Neteller is running a full investigation and so are the state police here in NY. Hopefully they can catch this person and put them behind bars. They money they took was sent to "labrokes" if anyone knows anything about that company please let me know. Thank you all and Merry Christmas |
| Quote: | | Thank you all for the prayers. and thak you very much liquid for the info. Well there is some good news on the situation. I have spoken to someone in the investigations department of neteller. Come to find out it was a virus in my system. Because of this they normally would have held me accountale for the funds. But the person I spoke with told me that in looking at my account history and such I obviously did not make that purchase so they are not holding me liable. He said that up until the 15t of this month all transactions came from the same IP address then on the 15th someone logged into my account from a different IP address he said probably to check my limits. Then on the 17th came in from that IP adress again and took the money. I kind of thank god it was a big chunk of money because that is part of how it was so obvious I had not done it. Besides the IP adress thing. I still have to wait and get some paper work done through my bank to have it returned but it will be taken care of. Ther only problem now is it will take probably more than the 6 days I have left before christmas. But at least it is being fixed. |
so you see my friend was completely violated. the culprit needs to be found. since Ladbrokes is UK i have not a clue on how things work. none the less please post any helpful ideas. thank you for your time

i quoted what i thought was pertinent out of the second quote , i quoted above.
| Quote: |
I have spoken to someone in the investigations department of neteller. Come to find out it was a virus in my system.
|
now what in the heck does that mean?? ?? a virus in her machine?? wow

i would think that since there is an ip address that logged in which was different from the account holder, and the money was transferred to ladbrokes, couldnt that ip be tracked as well by ladbrokes through their files and transactions in that dollar amount for that day????? and wouldnt you think that neteller would be alerted somehow when a different ip is logging into an account which had an established ip the account holder used regularly. ?
yes it seems that something serious just happened here and am i grasping this right???....its going to be basically fluffed off as if it were her fault she should be happy she is not being held liable.?? well ok great, who is next? another thing bothered me about this ....15th the different ip logged in, to probably check the limits......huh?? well there should be a limits on checking from a different ip anywho.....ya know like a notification of account being accessed from other ip. heads up type of thing.
well be careful all......... _________________ notLOL

If it was sent to a different person's account at Ladbrokes then Ladbrokes would refund it as it would be obvious that the Ladbrokes account and the Neteller account don't match unless they are using her details for the Ladbrokes account too.
I don't know why it will be such a problem to sort out if it was just sent to someone else's Ladbrokes account. I would like to know what Ladbrokes say about it as to me it doesn't make much sense and should have been refunded almost immediately when the mismatch was spotted by Ladbrokes. |

I'm sorry for your friend, notLOL. It sounds like after all the hassle she'll have to go through she should come out ok, I hope.
Just such a mess, and all the stress and trouble she was put through unnecessarily... what a waste of effort and everything else - and none of it had to happen.
I hope they catch and punish whoever it was that benefited from this.
And I hope NEtteller can do something to make sure nothing like this ever happens again.
Well, wish her luck for me... and a merry Christmas too - and to you too!
